Itoeno is a handcrafted soba restaurant located in Kohoku-cho, Nagahama City, right next to Katayama Fishing Port. The restaurant is run by a couple who relocated to the area, and the menu inside is beautifully handwritten in calligraphy by the wife. The owner’s wonderful personality is impressive.
The interior is a renovated traditional Japanese house, featuring charming Taisho-era furnishings that create an open and inviting atmosphere. From the large windows overlooking Lake Biwa, you can even see Chikubushima Island. The scenery changes beautifully with the seasons—cherry blossoms and fresh greenery in spring, vibrant autumn leaves in fall, and waterfowl with snow-capped mountains in winter.

This time, I had the opportunity to try a special course meal, which requires a reservation, but they also offer set courses that include tempura. Their handmade juwari soba (100% buckwheat noodles) has a firm texture and a rich aroma of soba. It’s highly recommended to try the first bite with just salt. The dipping sauce, packed with umami, was absolutely delicious.

For those who want to have an awe-inspiring dining experience, this is a must-try!Due to its popularity, making a reservation is recommended. If you need help with booking, the host at Ko-Rai-Gen can make the call for you!
